One charger fits all??

I wish!  Andrew asked in a previous comment how filming and animation worked in practice in the secondary classroom.  I’ll come back to these later in more detail, however there is one of part of technology which drives me nuts and that is charging…

This morning my vocational class were visited by a former pupil who is currently working in Japan.  Back for a holiday he agreed to be interviewed for our website (coming soon!).  So at 8.00am this morning I was charging a DV camera, a stills camera, 2 mp3 recorders and 4 iPods which were for another class later in the day.  Is there an easy and quick way?  If only all the chargers were the same and could just fit any gadget…I can dream!

However the interview went well and has been both filmed and recorded, and can be seen when the European Day of Languages section of our website goes live on September 26th

I saw a report last week in the Independent (haven’t been able to find an online version to reference) which said that the mobile phone manufacturers are being encouraged by the EU (aka: threatened with a fine) to discuss a common format for the plugs on mobile phone chargers. This would actually have a massively positive impact on the environment… just think what a difference it would make if you only had to buy a new phone and no charger! And slightly less land-fill!
The problem with the tech you mentioned (as I’m sure you know) is the different power requirements of the different items.
It’s the one thing people forget when they talk about going ‘wireless’… everything still needs charged, and that still means wires!

I know what you mean Lynn. I have a whole corner of the room dedicated to charging. I’ve got various different chargers and 6 power points and I’m still struggling. It’s all in a good cause though.
